This is a six bedroom house on two levels. The atrium is the focal point of the house. It has a panel of
Cheeney Khanas
inspired from the Shalimar Gardens in Lahore. Green coloured ceramic tiles were combined with the brickwork. A lot of traditional brick, tiles and wooden jali detailing was incorporated into the embellishments used in the design.
This is a single level four bedroom house with a separate smaller block which has my office and servants' quarters. The inspirations for the glazed and brick tile work came from Multan which is a rich resource of our heritage. This was the first example of its kind in which glazed tile work was used with bricks on the facade of the structure. The brickwork and ceramic tiles and Jali work was specially designed and manufactured for this house.
The landscaping around the house was designed to utilise maximum views from most of the living spaces. A lotus pond is used in the garden to liven that corner. Cooling in the house is through a desert cooler and the southern orientation of the house gives comfort in winters, this achieves considerable energy efficiency.
